Dakota Johnson ‘Loves to Drink a Martini’ While Trimming Her Own Bangs
Who is Dakota Johnson without her bangs? She doesn’t know it either.
“I’ve had bangs since I was a kid. I cut them myself when I was about four and I loved it,” the 36-year-old actress explained in her cover interview for Vogue Germany. “I’ve had them all my life, except between about [ages] 10 and 14 years old. I feel like myself with bangs,” she said.

Dakota Johnson’s full, blunt bangs are as much a part of her brand as Taylor Swift’s. And while she also shared that she wouldn’t mind giving up the constant maintenance, she found ways to romanticize it. “I also always travel with scissors and love drinking a martini while cutting my own bangs,” Johnson said. Vogue Germany. Painfully chic? Yes. Would we recommend? Probably not. Johnson admitted that the method has repeatedly worked against her fringe’s best interests, but that hasn’t stopped her yet.
In addition to her bangs, Johnson’s long brown hair is a staple of her cool, laid-back vibe. “It’s rich and dimensional, with just the right amount of warmth to catch the light,” her longtime colorist, Tracey Cunningham, previously said. Charm, referring to the “shiny brown” tone she created for Johnson. “It’s luxurious, modern and non-committal. It’s the kind of color that turns heads without much effort.”
In her Vogue Germany During the interview, Johnson shared that simplicity is key to her daily hair routine: “I don’t use any styling products and I let my hair air dry. Right now, it’s still a little damp, but I don’t do anything about it. When I’m filming, it’s a different story, of course,” she shared. The only product she relies on is a great serum for softness and shine; her favorite, she says, is from Crown Affair.
Johnson also gave a shout out to her regular hairstylists Mark Townsend and George Northwood for taking “very good care” of her hair – the secret to her natural length. “I think it just has to do with what you do inside,” Johnson said. Vogue Germany, referring to how quickly her hair and nails grow. “I eat very healthily, I drink a lot of water and I don’t do too much with my hair.”
