Is She Joking? Lisa Murkowski Describes a Meeting With President Trump Before Putin AK Summit – RedState

After the Summit of Grand Alaska between American President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose results will not yet be fully known for some time, the senior senator from Alaska, Princess Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), appeared on CNN President Trump. The brief meeting took place after the Air Force One landed, and also participated in the Junior Senator of Alaska, Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and the member of the Nick Begich III Congress (R-AK).

Senator Murkowski joked the request of the Alaska delegation to President Trump to promise not to refer part of Alaska to Russia as part of a peace agreement – which, frankly, is not so great a joke, and in any case, President Trump apparently declared that this will not happen.

Senator Murkowski said about Reunion:

It was important to be able to reinforce the priority again, no concession on Alaska, I joked the president yesterday, we certainly hoped that he did not plan to send back part of Alaska to Russia. He confirmed that we are well there.

Well, it’s comforting.

But here is the declaration that jumps to one:

Jake Tapper:

You are kidding in not restoring Alaska, which the United States bought in Russia in 1867 for just over $ 7 million, but you sit on the Senate Committee for Energy and Natural Resources, and Alaska is a home not only to supply, not only oil, but also for a rare variety of natural resources. And yesterday, President Trump was asked if he planned to offer all of this for commercial exploration by Russia, as a bargaining currency. He did not respond directly. He said that rare earths are unimportant in relation to the safeguarding of lives. But it is not really addressed the question. Do you want to support this as a negotiation chip?

Was Jake Tapper to ask me this question, my answer would probably be in the sense of “Are you drunk?” But Senator Murkowski took the question seriously:

It was raised during our brief meeting, with the president, on critical minerals, and the president quickly eliminated him and said: “This will not happen”.

Of course, that will not happen, and as President Trump may have said if Jake Tapper told him, “it’s a stupid question”. The President has made domestic development of rare land materials and other strategic resources a priority, and he will not have a party to negotiate for a peace agreement in a war in which the United States is not involved.

Senator Murkowski is not blind to demonstrations of power, however; After noting that Russia and President Putin behaved badly in recent years and deserve sanctions, and after questioning the wisdom to bring President Putin to Alaska, she noted:

I will tell you, however, standing there, a tarmac, like the Putin plane entered, not alone but flanked by our fighter plane escort, bringing them to our airspace, and as this plane was lifted, for them to take off and then do the shutter with the B-52 (it was actually a B-2) and the F-22, just there in the signs powerful.

It did, and whoever is not blind could see the message sent – “We can always take you.” Regarding President Trump, President Putin on the Tarmac, it is an elementary courtesy that would be extended to all leader of a major power.

It should be noted that, among all the media who attended the Alaska summit, Princess Lisa chose CNN and Jake Tapper to talk to. It’s not surprising, but it’s remarkable.
