David Beckham: United legend approached by UAE group in bid to buy club – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are once again the subject of takeover rumors.

Inéos

The chemical company owned by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe finally defeated Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, a Qatari banker, in December 2023 for partial control of the club.

However, while taking charge of the football side of operations, Ratcliffe only owns 28.94% of the club.

Therefore, the Glazer family still owns the majority of the club, although they have taken a back seat in football operations.

This means they could still technically sell United to someone who isn’t Ineos if they want to and there has been a flurry of rumors about potential buyers.

The United Arab Emirates’ candidacy

It was revealed last week that a group from the United Arab Emirates was interested in buying the football club.

Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that “the International Holding Company or IHC, which has been around for around three decades, has been involved in discussions to develop the prospect of a UAE-based consortium.”

It was also suggested that legend Eric Cantona had been approached to act as an ambassador for the bid.

David Beckham approached

The Sun reports that “David Beckham has been approached by a group of UAE billionaires as they prepare a bid to buy Manchester United, according to sensational reports.”

It is said that “an unknown consortium of UAE investors is reportedly considering making a bid for shares controlled by United’s majority shareholders, the Glazers.”

Additionally, “they approached the six-time Premier League champion and treble winner to see if he would be willing to become an ambassador for the bid.”

Wayne Rooney and Eric Cantona are also said to be interested, but Beckham’s global fame would make him the favorite.

The former England international has a net worth of £300million and already owns Salford City and Inter Miami.
