Dawn Staley Gets Honest About Knicks’ Coaching Interest

New York Knicks have changed this off -season, leaving Tom Thibodeau and replacing it with Mike Brown. While Brown ended up being the choice, the team threw a large net in its search for a coach. A name that came was the southern Caroline women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley.
Staley could have been the most surprising name on the list. She was more than qualified to be on the list, but no team never hired a woman to become a head coach of the NBA.
Even if the Knicks were interested in Staley, they decided to go in a different direction.
New York head coach work, Staley has now honestly pronounced the interest of the team. She clearly indicated that she would have taken the post if she had been offered to her.

These comments were made during a recent appearance on the Podcast “Post Moves” with Candace Parker and Aliyah Boston.
“I interviewed for the Knicks. It was the same interview as everyone who was in their pool of candidates (GOT). Same thing. … I thought I was doing quite well. I was well prepared,” said Staley.
“If the Knicks had offered me the work, I should have done it. Not only for me, it’s for women. … To open this. And these are the Knicks of New York, and I come from Philly, but it’s Freakin ‘New York Knicks.”

She also talked about where she could have shot in the foot during her interview with the Knicks. A question she asked seemed to change the way the team saw her throughout the process.
“(One of my questions was) if you hired me as the first female trainer (chief) of the NBA, how will it have an impact on your daily work?” She said. “Because it would be the case. It would be. Because you will be asked of questions that you do not have to wonder if you hire a male coach. There will be the media, there will be everything you will have to face what you have to face and that you do not have to face when you hire a man. It led them to think. I felt the energy changes after that.

Although he did not get the post in New York, Staley is in an ideal place. She has put the Gamecocks in the dynasty territory since its care as a coach of the team.
Speaking of her mandate with Southern Carolina, Staley has been the program coach of the program since the 2008-09 season. She compiled an impressive record of 475-110 to accompany three NCAA championships.
It will be interesting to see if Staley arouses more NBA interest on the road. Although things did not work with the Knicks, fans may not have heard the last of his name in the NBA rumors.
