Dawn Staley says she would have left South Carolina for New York Knicks coaching job

Dawn Staley said that if she had been offered the post of head coach of New York Knicks, she would have felt forced to leave the South Carolina – where she won three national championships – to take the position.
Staley interviewed the Knicks before hiring Mike Brown last month.

“I should have done it. Not only for me. For women. To hide (this door) to open,” said Staley on the “Post Moves” podcast with Aliyah Boston of Indiana Fever and the former star of the WNBA Candace Parker. “I should have done it. These are the New York Knicks. I come from Philly. But these are the New York Knicks. ”
We do not know how seriously the Knicks considered the hiring of Staley.
New York has interviewed several other candidates for the position, including the former coach of Charlotte Hornets James Borrego, the former coach of Memphis Grizzlies, Taylor Jenkins and the Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori.
Staley, 55, said she thought she had done well in the interview.

However, she wondered if she had been able to endanger her chances of winning the NBA position when she asked Knicks officials if they were fully prepared for the way it could have an impact on the organization to hire the first head coach of the League.
“How, if you hired me as the first woman coach (chief) of the NBA, it would have an impact on your daily work? Because it would be,” said Staley. “You will be asked of questions you don’t have to answer if you are a male coach. There will be the media and all these other things that you have to deal with what you have not had to face and that you do not have to face when you hire a man. It led them to think:” Maybe she is right. “”
Staley said she felt the energy changes after that.
“So, I got into the foot while being curious and asking all these questions,” said Staley.
