Deion Sanders health update: Colorado coach reveals battle with bladder cancer during offseason absence
Colorado coach Deion Sanders was far from the team during the offseason when he was treated for a cancerous tumor in his bladder, he announced at a press conference on Monday with his doctors. The premium coach underwent surgery to remove the bladder and proved to be cured from cancer. Sanders returned to campus last Friday for the first time in months after recovering in his Ranch in Canton, Texas.
“You have no idea how good God has been good for me, for me to be here. You have no idea,” said Sanders after revealing the test before thanks his doctors.
The fame of renown went to Big 12 Media Days earlier this month at Frisco Star, Texas, about 75 minutes from Canton. However, unlike the other 15 league coaches, Sanders did not make the complete circuit of appearances and interviews; Instead, it only appeared before the media assembled during its official press conference.
Regarding his future team’s coach, Sanders seems ready to direct the buffs this season.
“I was always going to train again,” said Sanders. “I was not going to run to the hospital once a week with all this on my plate. I didn’t want it. Sanders has history problems, including blood clots which required two toes of the toes in 2021. At the time of the media, Sanders said that he had recovered from his health disease and that he would soon return to Boulder.
“The bad side of this cancer is that if it is progressing towards the muscle, the metastase rate is around 50%,” said Dr. Janet Kukreja at the press conference. “Only about 10% of people live more than five years, even with our current medical treatment if it is metastasized. We are very likely to have found it at this stage where I can say the word healing, because I do not use this word lightly as a cancer doctor.”

In just two seasons in Colorado, Sanders went on one of the largest sports coach stars. Sanders led the Buffaloes to a brand of 9-4 and TOP 25 AP in 2024, the best season for the program since 2016.
