Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) husband, Tim Mynett, may have problems with Islamic leaders because he owns a wine business in California.

Mynett converted to Islam when he married Omar, who is Muslim, in 2020. However, the sale of alcohol is prohibited under Islamic law, the New York Post reported Saturday, noting that Mynett’s company is called eStCru.

This affair and others apparently increased the couple’s worth to $30 million.

“Omar claimed the wine business was worth between $1 million and $5 million in his May 2025 financial filings, which covered the calendar year 2024,” the statement said. Job the article said, adding that the company was bankrupt for more than a year, prompting questions about why it was so beloved.

Mynett and a business partner were later sued by an investor who alleged the two businessmen “fraudulently represented” the brand as a legitimate business.

“It is unclear why, after all this failure, Omar placed the company’s value in the seven figures. In her financial disclosures covering the previous year of 2023, when eStCru was at least alive, she only put her value between $15,000 and $50,000, which is significantly lower,” the report said. Job report said.

When it comes to religious rules, the couple was accused of having an affair while Mynett was still married to Beth Mynett. He was also allegedly seen carrying alcohol into Omar’s Washington, D.C. residence and smoking cigarettes.

Committing adultery, drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes are prohibited in the Muslim faith.

According to the Quran Explorer website, “Haram and halal things mentioned in the Quran are for our own benefit. Allah (swt) has forbidden certain things for us, because these things can be harmful to us and our health. Alcoholic beverages are no exception. Although alcohol has some advantages, its disadvantages outweigh its advantages.”

In 2020, a Washington-based consulting firm co-owned by Mynett received more than $500,000 in Chinese coronavirus bailout money on top of the millions his campaign spent on the company that year, according to Breitbart News.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump in January called for a criminal investigation into Omar to seek answers about how her wealth grew to more than $30 million while she held public office, the outlet reported.

“House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said his group is seeking answers about Omar and Mynett through congressional oversight,” the article said, adding, “One reason for the House investigation and Trump’s call for a criminal investigation may be that Omar’s district was the starting point for billions of dollars of widespread fraud involving federal funding of social service programs for the Somali population. »
