A Democratic Virginia state senator says immigration measures put in place by the Trump administration were responsible for the murder of a Fairfax County mother by an illegal immigrant.

Stephanie Minter, a 41-year-old mother from Fredericksburg, was found with multiple stab wounds on Richmond Highway in Fairfax County on Feb. 23, according to a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department, quickly accusing Abdul Jalloh, an illegal migrant from Sierra Leone with a long criminal history, of Minter’s murder. Democratic state Sen. Scott Surovell said the killing, blamed on Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano, occurred because U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was conducting operations in Minnesota and Memphis. “They had the opportunity, they were informed electronically multiple times that he was being arrested multiple times, and they chose to do nothing,” Surovell said. “Why? Maybe because they were busy shooting poets. Maybe because they were busy shooting nurses. Maybe it’s because they’re busy with their surge in Minnesota or Memphis or wherever instead of doing what the president promised to do when he ran for office, which was capture and deport violent undocumented immigrants, which apparently isn’t what they have. interesting to do, because 75% of the people they arrested have no criminal history.

“And from my perspective and my district’s perspective, there is a dead person in my district because ICE seems to be focusing on things other than what the president promised and what he should be doing, which is focusing on keeping us safe,” Surovell continued. “Madam Speaker, that’s what bothers me about the conversation over the last 48 hours, and the people in my district want to be safe and want ICE to focus on good people and not people who are just trying to live their lives. That’s all I’m saying, Madam Speaker.”

The presence of hundreds of federal law enforcement personnel in Minnesota has become controversial following the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good by DHS agents in January during clashes between the agents and so-called “rapid response networks” opposed to cracking down on illegal immigration.

Descano, who was elected with the support of left-wing billionaire George Soros, has repeatedly dropped charges against Jalloh, despite multiple appeals from law enforcement and local authorities. Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger of Virginia, who ended agreements local law enforcement had with ICE, said she would not honor an ICE detainer without a “judicial warrant.”
