Democrats ‘Seem to Think That Poor People Are Stupid,’ Scott Bessent Tells CNN Scold Dana Bash – RedState

The secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, appeared on Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” and destroyed each of the Dana Bash hosts on the effects of the “Big Beautiful Bill” and his arrangements on Medicaid.
Bash tried to paint new work requirements for Medicaid as too “heavy” for people, and that many would be rejected from the program, because they simply could not expect to be able to understand how to show the proof of work.
Bessent retaliated, arguing that the depreciation of the American people was not a good argument:
🚨New: Scott Bessent Torches Dems which oppose the work requirements of Medicaid in BBB🚨
“Republicans are not the most vocal on this subject. It is a group of democrats who, unfortunately, seem to think that the poor are stupid.”

I don’t think the poor are stupid. I think they have an agency. And I think that making them register twice a year for these advantages is not a burden.
But these people who want to infantilize the poor and those who need these advantages of Medicaid are alarmists.
Then Bash tried to say that the bill would result in changes in the advantages of people. Bessent has also shot this one:

Bessent:
No, there is no change in the advantages.
There is a change in the requirements to obtain the advantages. And what we do, we bring manufacturers’ jobs. We bring jobs from the working class by obtaining the border. We have seen, already seen wages of the working class. So we create jobs. People can get out of Medicaid and find a job that has good health care advantages.

Bessent also reminded Bash that Democrats were for work requirements before they were against them:
.@SecottBessente remind @Danabashcnn That the work requirements of Medicaid were “very popular under Bill Clinton … popular under President Obama”.

Do you remember that?
Here is Bill Clinton, Joe Biden and Hilary Clinton pleading with passion for social program reforms and work requirements. To say that these programs are not a permanent solution and that those who are capable must go to work.

I wonder if the hosts of the Matin Middle Matter program are still tired of calling the officials of the Trump administration week after week and having them shredden their arguments and making them look like fools on live national television? It can’t be fun.
