‘Don’t See What the Point of’ Having Working Relationship With Trump Is

On CNN’s “OutFront” Thursday, New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D-) said there’s no point in having a working relationship with President Donald Trump and “he’s not someone you can work with.”
Host Erin Burnett asked: “[W]We hear that the mayor, Mayor Mamdani, is texting Trump, that they’re texting back and forth, that there’s a warmth and friendship. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), obviously, doesn’t have quite the same type of relationship, but she has had a relationship with the president. Do you think it could be you, that you could have a working, warm, collegial relationship with him, even though you say and feel the things you just expressed here?
Sherrill responded: “I don’t see what the point is, when every deal you make with him, he goes back and then uses that as leverage to renegotiate that deal. That’s why we see countries around the world walking away from us. He’s just not credible in any way. He – for example, you see the Empire Wind project in New York. That deal had been done. And then, capriciously, he just said, you know what? No, we let’s not move. We know that Congress delegated money to the Gateway Tunnel project, and they continue to try to bring it back illegally. So at every turn, it’s just not credible.
