Dept of War Slams CBS, CNN Claim U.S. Troops Killed Were Working in ‘Makeshift Office Space’ in Kuwait – RedState

On Monday, the fake news regime was at it with slanted stories about the location where six U.S. troops were killed during Operation Epic Fury, and questioning the adequacy of its defenses.
CNN reported the precise location in Kuwait and which command those killed were assigned to, despite CENTCOM saying that they would not give more details until 24 hours after the families were notified, characterizing it as a “makeshift operations center” and that a source described it as “a triple-wide trailer with office space inside.” That source said there was no warning or sirens to alert the troops to take cover.
Then CBS followed up, characterizing the building as “makeshift office space”:
The first American service members to die in the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran were killed in an apparent Iranian drone attack on a makeshift office space in Kuwait, three U.S. military officials with direct knowledge of Iran’s attack told CBS News.
Further down in the story, though, CBS News acknowledged that using a triple-wide trailer for office space was “a common setup at U.S. bases abroad.”
It’s obvious that the framing from CBS and CNN is an attempt to paint the War Department under Pete Hegseth as incompetent and give the public the impression that U.S. service members were being forced to complete dangerous missions in unfortified shanties, so Assistant Secretary of War Sean Parnell called out the reporting:
This “reporting” from CBS is not true.
A Tactical Operations Center is not a “makeshift office space.” The secure facility was fortified with 6-foot walls.
Here are the facts:
1. We have the most extensive Air Defense umbrella in the world over the Middle East right now and control of the skies is increasing with every wave of airpower. The Iranian Navy has been devastated, and our military is dominating.
2. Every possible measure has been taken to safeguard our troops — at every level. The Department is prepared for this engagement and has hardened our defenses. We’ve moved a significant number of our troops off the X and will always protect our bases and people from a significantly weakened Iran.
We will continue fighting in a way that honors our six fallen: no apologies, no hesitation. Epic fury for them and for every American lost at the hands of Iranian radicals.

During a press briefing at the Pentagon on Monday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said that the weapon made it through air defenses and the tactical operations center’s fortifications:
“You have air defenses, and a lot’s coming in, and you hit most of it. Every once in a while, you might have one, unfortunately, we call it a squirter, that makes its way through. And in that particular case, it happened to hit a tactical operations center that was fortified, but these are powerful weapons.”
CBS and CNN both quoted anonymous sources criticizing the building’s defenses as inadequate, saying that while there were T-walls, those wouldn’t protect it from overhead strikes.
“The building had concrete barriers surrounding it, the source said — typical for military structures overseas to protect against things like car bombs — but nothing that could shield it from drones or missiles.”
Apparently CNN and CBS don’t count air defenses as something that could shield tactical operations center from drones or missiles. Another thing that could have helped protect the building is a C-RAM (Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar) system; it’s too bad that President Biden left at least two on the runway in Kabul for ISIS during the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.
