Detroit Zoo, Belle Isle Nature Center to close for frigid weekend

The Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center will be closed Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24 due to expected freezing temperatures in the Metro Detroit area.
The Detroit Zoological Society announced the closure following reports that the coldest temperatures of the season were expected to hit the region over the weekend, with temperatures of 0 degrees and below with negative wind chill.

The zoo and nature center are scheduled to reopen on Sunday, January 25, but officials are also monitoring the weather that day.
Visitors who purchased a ticket to visit the zoo during the closure period will have their ticket honored for a future visit.
Animal care staff will remain on site during the closure.
