DOJ Brings Hammer Down on Suspected Gracie Mansion Bombers, Reveals They Wanted Maximum Carnage – RedState

News is coming quickly about the two suspects in the attempted bombing outside Gracie Mansion, the official residence of New York’s mayor, which occurred Saturday during a clash of protests against Iran and Operation Epic Fury.

Although the two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) did not detonate properly, they were filled with nuts, bolts and screws and could have maimed or killed an unknown number of victims.

Now the Justice Department is coming down hard on the two teenage suspects, Pennsylvanians clearly drawn to the sick cult of violence pushed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Attorney General Pam Bondi posted the news on social media:

They face numerous charges, including use of a weapon of mass destruction:

– Count 3: Transport of explosive materials

– Count 4: Interstate transportation and receipt of explosives

– Count 5: Illegal possession of destructive devices

One of the two suspects, Emir Balat, 18, whose parents are naturalized U.S. citizens of Turkish origin, openly expressed his desire to provoke bloodshed, according to the federal complaint.

Although a terrible story, it could have been much worse if the bombs had worked as intended. These two are unlikely to see life outside of a prison cell for many, many years, and that’s a good thing. Unfortunately, they are far from the only threat we face:

Although Operation Epic Fury stoked tensions with supporters of the Iranian regime, the twisted duo was radicalized by ISIS, and New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said there is no indication they acted because of the conflict:

Speaking outside the mayor’s residence, Gracie Mansion, Monday morning, Mamdani said Balat and Kayumi “traveled from Pennsylvania and attempted to bring violence to New York City.” Mamdani and his wife were not at home during the protest.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said there is no indication the men’s alleged activities are linked to the ongoing war in Iran. The Islamic State is a group of Sunni extremists; Iran’s population is almost entirely composed of Shiites, Islam’s other main religious community.

That being said, they were participating in a demonstration in the presence of pro-Iran and anti-regime demonstrators. This would imply that they didn’t care who they killed; they just wanted blood to be shed.

If things go well, all they’ll see for the rest of their lives will be the walls of a supermax.
