DOJ Now Suing Five More States for Blocking Voter Roll Access – RedState

The fight for election integrity is still going on, and the Department of Justice is showing it’s willing to get down in the trenches. The push for election integrity investigations will likely ramp up over the summer as well, with the midterm elections coming in November, and a lot is riding on the outcome of these elections.

On Thursday, the DoJ Civil Rights Division announced new federal lawsuits against five states that have not provided their entire voter registries.

The post continues:

…for failure to produce their full voter registration lists upon request. This brings the Justice Department’s nationwide total to 29 states and the District of Columbia.

“Accurate, well-maintained voter rolls are a requisite for the election integrity that the American people deserve,” said @AGPamBondi. “This latest series of litigation underscores that the Department of Justice is fulfilling its duty to ensure transparency, voter roll maintenance, and secure elections across the country.”

The DoJ has also issued a formal press release. The release continues from the X post text:

“The Justice Department will continue to fulfill its oversight role dutifully, neutrally, and transparently wherever Americans vote in federal elections,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “Many state election officials, however, are choosing to fight us in court rather than show their work. We will not be deterred, regardless of party affiliation, from carrying out critical election integrity legal duties.”

According to the lawsuits, the Attorney General is uniquely charged by Congress with broad authority to request election records under the Civil Rights Act of 1960. This Act allows her to demand the production, inspection, and analysis of statewide voter registration lists that can be cross-checked effectively for improper registrations.

This, as noted, brings the total number of states currently facing some legal pressure to hand over their voter registries to 29.

The entire list of states facing these actions include Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Utah, Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia, and New Jersey. All of these states are reportedly facing these actions to force them to hand over the full, unedited voter registration lists, which the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division is seeking as part of the Trump administration’s investigations into election integrity.
