DOJ opens grand jury inquiry into Letitia James in New York

The Ministry of Justice summoned a large jury to investigate the New York Attorney General, Letitia James, marking a climb in President Donald Trump’s fight with the best prosecutor in New York.

The investigation is short of Albany, New York, and focused on a possible deprivation of rights allegations, two well -placed sources familiar with the investigation at Fox News Digital.

The investigation is at an early stage, but Fox News Digital learned that James’ office had received assignments for documents this week, including for information relating to his civil fraud trial against Trump.

James, a democrat who was elected attorney general in 2018, has long been a Trump target. James successfully carried civil accusations against him for commercial fraud in 2022 and played an instrumental role in the challenge of executive actions of his current administration in justice.

James’ office did not respond to requests for comments on the investigation.

James began investigating the Trump organization shortly after taking office, finally obtaining a judgment of $ 454 million against the president of the time and some of Trump’s leaders, including two of his sons.

A New York judge noted that Trump and his business partners have greatly overestimated Trump’s richness to obtain favorable loans and other financial advantages. James said at the time that financial fraud was not a “crime without victim”.

“If the average New Yorkers were going in a bank and submitted false documents, the government would launch the book to them, and the same goes for the former presidents,” said James.

`Dangerous and illegal ‘

James was also one of the main personalities in the fact that disputes dispute the executive actions of the second Trump Administration. James and other Democratic Public Prosecutors continued to combat free spending on social programs funded by the federal government, mass layoffs of federal employees and transgender care restrictions for minors, among other questions.

The news of an investigation by the Grand Jury intervenes while the tensions continued to build between Trump and James.

In April, the Trump Federal Housing Finance Agency asked the Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate James for mortgage fraud, and the Doj opened a separate investigation on this subject. James received assignments from Grand Jury in the investigation, reported the Washington Post.

James denied the allegations of mortgage fraud.

At the same time, Trump described her as “wacky crook” on Truth Social.

“Letitia James, a completely corrupt politician, is expected to resign from her post as a prosecutor general of New York State, wrote Trump immediately.
