Donald Trump’s Sick, Cynical Racial Con—and How to Fight It

Race is a key element in Trump’s agenda on almost all problems, from immigration education. Trump does not insist on “Daltonian” policies, as the conservatives thought. Trump’s policies sometimes very explicitly promote certain racial and ethnic groups, such as South African whites, while targeting others for worse treatment, especially African-Americans and Latinos. In the last edition of Right now with Perry BaconSociology of the University of Iowa, criminology and professor of African-American studies Victor Ray and the professor of the University of Stanford, Hakeem Jefferson, discuss the central role of the race in the administration of Trump, which, according to them, was underwater. Ray maintains that Trump “weapons the tools of the civil rights movement” against people of color, who were his targeted beneficiaries. Jefferson says that the Democrats would make a mistake by minimizing or going right on racial issues. You can watch this episode here.
