Eileen Gu involved in ‘terrible accident’ in training: report

Eileen Gu, the American skier who chose to represent China at the 2022 Olympic Games, would have been involved in a training accident in New Zealand last week.
Passers -by of Cardrona Alpine Resort in Cardrona told South China Morning Post that Gui seemed to undergo serious injuries and was to be taken to the hospital on a stretcher.
Gu would have given an update on health on his Weibo account.

“Unfortunately, a very terrible accident occurred yesterday due to a human error,” she wrote. “I hope that I will be back on the snow soon, but I am still waiting for the final confirmation of the expert team.
“I have to concentrate entirely during training, especially when I prepare to start, because it is very dangerous to be interrupted. I also have to focus on the photo and the imagination of movements on the cable car. To save time, I have no lunch breaks and I try to use the bathroom as little as possible.
Gu won two gold medals and silver at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.

She triggered the controversy on the Olympic scene after having decided to compete for China with the United States team. His father is American, but his mother is a first generation Chinese immigrant.

During the matches, she dodged questions about her citizenship after winning gold. The Chinese state media said Gui became a Chinese national at the age of 15, according to Reuters.
The government does not allow double citizenship, which means that the native of California should have abandoned his American citizenship to do so.
Gui estimated that she had spent at least a quarter of her life in China. Her original story, as she tells, begins with the time she presented the idea of the first Slopestyle ski event in China at the age of 9 – and won.

She said that in 2024, she planned to represent China again at the 2026 Olympic Games.
