Electronic Arts lays off hundreds of workers in latest round of cuts
Electronic Arts, the Global Video Game Company, again reduces its workforce.
The company, based in Redwood City, California, has eliminated several hundred positions, including around 100 jobs at Rapawn, a video game development studio based in Los Angeles.
“As part of our continuous emphasis on our long-term strategic priorities, we have made changes within our organization that are more effectively aligning teams and allocating resources to the service of future growth,” said Justin Higgs, spokesperson for electronic arts, in a statement.
The company, which has a large office in Marina Del Rey, helps employees explore new internal roles and provide support to affected workers, he added.
Bloomberg first pointed out the cuts, saying that they had affected between 300 and 400 people, citing a person familiar with the cuts.
The layoffs are the last to strike the electronic arts, which had approximately 13,700 employees in March 2024.
The company in 2024 said that it would reduce around 5% of its workforce after announcing a similar reduction a year earlier.
Electronic Arts has offices in California, but also has workers across Europe and Asia. Respawn, the studio behind the popular games “Apex Legends” and “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”, has a great presence in Los Angeles but also opened studios in Canada and Wisconsin.
Respawn canceled the development of a “Titanfall” game that was not near its release, Bloomberg reported. The Titanfall franchise includes a series of first -person shooting games.
The company declared in a statement this week on social networks that it “had made the decision to move away from two incubation projects at an early stage and to make targeted team adjustments through the legends Apex and Star Wars Jedi.”
“These decisions are not easy and we are deeply grateful to each touched teammate,” said Respawn in the press release.
