A small rally for the candidate of the socialist mayor Democratic of Minneapolis, Omar Fateh, was held mainly in Somalit on Sunday evening.

Fateh, who is currently a senator from the Minnesota State, announced his candidacy for the town hall last year and was recently approved by the Minnesota Democratic-Labor-Farmer (DFL) party. He became the first American and Muslim Somali elected to the Minnesota Senate after defeating Democrat Jeff Hayden in 2020.

During the rally, which was recorded and broadcast by Somalian Minnesota television, several speakers, including Fateh, went to the microphone while speaking Somalia. The music is Somali and no American flag has been piloted. Some participants wore stickers with the Palestinian flag. The mayor’s hope, speaking both in Somali and in English, urged the supporters to continue to solicit until the primary in September. Fateh finished the speech saying: “Let’s work, Inshallah.”

The Daily Caller News Foundation could not immediately translate what Fateh said exactly when he spoke Somali.

Fateh takes place on a platform focused on the protection of “undocumented residents” of an presumed “hostile federal government”. His other policies include the freeze of rent and the increase in the minimum wage. The Fateh platform resembles the platform of the candidate for the town hall of the New York town hall, Zohran Mamdani, which includes the increase in the minimum wage to $ 30 and the grocery stores managed by the government.

Fateh won the approval of the DFL on the outgoing mayor Jacob Frey, who opposed the abolition of the Minneapolis police service and was then heckled by groups of demonstrators in 2020. Frey also changed the blame to have allegedly delayed the deployment of the members of the National Guard during the 2020 riots, which asks that Governor Tim Walz appropriate at his request for his troops.
