Vinay Prasad returns to its role supervising the vaccine, gene therapy and the regulation of blood products at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just over a week after leaving the agency.

“At the request of the FDA, Dr. Vinay Prasad takes over the leadership of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research,” said spokesperson for the Health and Human Services department, Andrew Nixon, in a statement in Reuters.

Prasad left the agency on July 30 after a few months as director of the center.

Endpoints News, which covers the biotechnology industry, first pointed out the return of Prasad.

Prasad, an oncologist who was a fierce critic of the American vaccine and mask mandates, was appointed director of the center by the FDA commissioner, Marty Makary, in May.

The criticism of Prasad’s mandate has intensified around the management by the agency of a gene therapy for the muscular dystrophy of Duchenne (DMD) of Sarepta Therapeutics.

The therapy approved by the FDA played a role in the death of two teenagers who had advanced the DMD. After a third death in an experimental gene therapy distinct from the company, the FDA asked Sarepta on July 18 to stop all the expeditions of approved DMD therapy, saying that it had security problems.

The FDA changed CAP on Sarepta on July 28 and said that expeditions to the main patient group for the drug could restart.

Laura Loopomer, an extreme right influencer and the theorist of the conspiracy with an disproportionate influence on Donald Trump, had described Prasad as “progressive left saboteur” who was undergoing the work of the agency.

Two days before Prasad broke down last month, Loomer had published an erroneous admitted sound to suggest that Prasad had admitted to having stuck pins in a Voodoo Trump doll, when the complete audio clearly indicated that he was talking about the kind of thing that a Liberal Trump Hater would do.

Loomer reacted to the news of the return of Prasad on Saturday by renewing his attacks against him in an article on social networks in which she promised to produce “officials of civil servants within the HHS and the FDA” in the coming weeks. “There are several confirmation audiences from the coming Senate and I have several Oppo books ready for distribution!” She wrote.

Prasad was a doctor who joined the University of California agency in San Francisco. He had stays at the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health.

The FDA and other health agencies have experienced multiple upheavals in recent months under the direction of the Secretary of Health, Robert F Kennedy Jr.
