Elon Musk’s xAI sues Apple and OpenAI over antitrust claims
Monday, X Corp of Elon Musk (the social network formerly known on Twitter) and Xai (which manufactures Grok AI products) continued Apple and Openai before the Federal Court. X Corp and XAI belong to the parent company X.ai Holdings Corp, after Musk sold X to X.AI in March 2025.
The case was filed by the Northern District Court of Texas, Fort Worth Division, a court known for being so friendly with the conservatives that some accused it of having made decisions inclined in the meline of the previous legal – it is a frequent target of “judging purchases” for business and conservative causes.
The filing of 61 pages (PDF) makes several complaints against Apple and Openai, accusing conspiracy companies together to eliminate competition in the AI industry. He says that AI is “the most powerful technology that humanity has ever created” and says that Apple and Openai’s arrangement prevents another IA company from competing. In addition, he says that Apple has “depreciated” other AI chatbots and “super applications” (like X) in the App Store, and dragged the applications examination process for these applications.
It requires a trial by jury (yes, it ends by saying: “The complainants demand by this jury trial”.) And requests a permanent injunction, paid monetary damages, paid punitive damages, with interest before and after the judgment and the cost of legal costs for the trial.
When writing these lines, OpenAi’s Chatgpt application contains first place in the classification of free applications of the IOS App Store. Grok is classified 22nd, while X is classified 28th. Apple previously defended the algorithm of the App Store as “just and without prejudice”, after Musk called the classification in a post on X.
The pursuit alleys that Apple’s arrangement with OpenAi to Chatgpt integrated in iOS 18 prevents X.AI from competing. When chatgpt integration was announced at WWDC in 2024, Apple said: “We also have the intention of adding other AI models to the future.” This has not yet occurred, there are persistent rumors that Google Gemini will be added as an IA integration option in the coming months.
