Erdoğan says there has been progress in Eurofighter sale to Turkey
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that there had been progress in the negotiations concerning the sale of the Eurofighter combat aircraft in Türkiye.
Germany and Turkey have a positive position on the issue, said Anadolu, the state news agency, quoted Erdoğan. “I am convinced that we will receive our jets very soon,” he said during a return flight from Cyprus.
Turkey wants 40 Eurofighter combat jets. Since Germany is involved in the European joint project, combat aircraft cannot be exported without the approval of the German government.
During his visit to the United Kingdom last Thursday, the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that there had not yet been a final decision, but they were “on the way to a good decision which also allows approval of the corresponding export”.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said they wanted to coordinate joint export campaigns.
