Arne Slot hails Alexander Isak as ‘top level’ and backs him to transform Liverpool attack

Arne Slot says Alexander Isak is a “top level” talent and has backed the striker to transform Liverpool’s attack.

Isak has had a difficult first season at Liverpool, with a lack of pre-season and serious injuries affecting his debut campaign at Anfield.

The Swedish striker has only scored four goals in 21 games in all competitions, but he scored in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

The goal was Isak’s first since returning from a four-month absence and Slot is delighted to regain the record signing and be available.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Slot backed Isak to make a difference for Liverpool when he is fully fit.

He said the summer signing can help a Liverpool side who have struggled to “convert their chances into goals” this season.

“Having Alex [Alexander Isak] help more available. He is at the highest level,” he told the media in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“In general, having more players available will help with consistency. At the moment, not playing three times in seven days also helps.

“Converting chances into goals is something we haven’t done well all season. One of the players we thought could [Isak] is barely available.

“Last week you saw a chance, which wasn’t the biggest we’ve had this season, he finished it very well, Alex.

“Scoring a goal is essential to get you on the right track. Glad to have Alex back. It’s a shame we won’t have Mo, who has been a great goalscorer over the years, on Sunday.

“Alex and some of the other players haven’t scored as many goals as I think they are capable of, or as they have in previous years.

“It will get back to normal at some point. The sooner the better.”
