Ex-Titans receiver says he wants to join the Pittsburgh Steelers

The Tennessee Titans have revamped their wide receiver room this offseason, saying goodbye to two of their starters from 2024. While fan-favorite Nick Westbrook-Ikhine landed in Miami with the Dolphins, veteran slot receiver Tyler Boyd remains on the market.

With the additions of Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett in free agency, and the drafting of Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor, it was clear that Tennessee was not setting the stage for a reunion with Boyd, who is still searching for his next stop. This decision is understandable, given that the veteran slot receiver underwhelmed in his only year in Nashville.

Boyd signed a one-year $2.4 million contract with the Titans last offseason to reunite with head coach Brian Callahan, who was his offensive coordinator in Cincinnati for the best parts of his career. Unfortunately, he was unable to replicate that success, and he appeared to be a shadow of the player he once was, finishing the year with eight starts in 16 games while posting 39 catches for 390 yards.

So, what is next for the former Titans receiver? If you ask him, it is a return to the AFC North and a stint with his hometown team: The Pittsburgh Steelers. Zach Dimmit of Sports Illustrated reports that Boyd spoke with the media at a recent youth football camp and expressed his desires.

"Absolutely," Boyd told Pittsburgh Sports Now during youth camp on Saturday. "You know, all my family is here. I'd be able to have the majority of them be able to support me."

Boyd is a Pittsburgh area native who was a high school and college star in the area, making it easy to connect the dots on his desires. Couple that with his eight years of experience within the AFC North, and it would seem like a logical fit if the Steelers are interested.

Like the Titans, the Steelers have made some wholesale changes to their receiving corps and might want to add another veteran to the mix, and Boyd would fit that profile. During his career, mainly as a slot receiver, Boyd pulled in 552 receptions for 6,390 yards and 31 touchdowns across 85 starts and 136 appearances in the regular season.
