FBI Probes Terror Link in Texas Nightclub Shooting – RedState

Three people are dead following a shooting at an Austin, Texas, bar early Sunday morning. Fourteen other people were injured, but Austin police responded very quickly and engaged the shooter, who was killed in the exchange. According to the latest report, several of the injured are in critical condition in area hospitals. Neither the shooter nor any of the victims have been identified to date.
Here’s what makes this interesting, especially given the events of the last 48 hours: The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force was very quickly involved in the investigation.

Note that this does not indicate any motivation.
Three people were killed and 14 others injured when a gunman opened fire at a crowded downtown Austin bar early Sunday — and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the attack.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at a man’s home at the Backyard Beer Garden in Buford, near the University of Texas at Austin, just before 2 a.m., officials said at a news conference.
Three police officers who were patrolling the entertainment district responded to the scene within 57 seconds, confronted the shooter and “returned fire,” killing the unidentified suspect.
57 seconds is fast by any standard, and we should be glad that these officers responded not only quickly but decisively.
Here’s the interesting part:
The shooter allegedly stormed the bar with a handgun and an assault rifle, according to the Austin-American Statesman.
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force has joined the investigation into the mass shooting, indicating that the motive for the attack may be terrorism-related.
“Officers immediately transitioned from East 6th Street to West 6th Street and were confronted by the individual armed with a firearm,” Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said.
So far, there is no indication what type of terrorist connection is suspected. As for weapons, the long gun is certainly not an “assault weapon” as anyone with a basic knowledge of firearms would define it, the key feature of an actual assault weapon being its fully automatic capability, but we have become accustomed to this kind of reporting on gun issues.

It is easy, at this point, to jump to conclusions. Anyone who has followed events in the Middle East in recent days may be thinking the obvious. But consider this: the statement that the shooter had materials that “were indications of a potential connection to terrorism” can mean many things; it could have been a goblin from Antifa, or any number of national left-wing groups that have been threatening violence since, oh, January 2025.
But a bar? In Austin, liberal bastion of Texas? This is a rather puzzling choice for a left-wing terrorist.
This is a developing story. We will bring you updates as events warrant.
