Six Injured in Broad Daylight Grenade Attack in Grenoble
A beauty salon in Grenoble, southern France, was rocked on Friday after masked men threw a grenade inside the building, injuring six people, including a young child.
On Friday shortly before 3 p.m., two men entered the salon on Boulevard Gambetta in Grenoble, one throwing an explosive device into the store while the other filmed the attack before fleeing.
Six people were slightly injured at the scene of the attack, including a five-year-old child, according to the local newspaper. Dauphiné Libéré.
“An individual entered the store and threw an explosive device. It was not a typical grenade, a military grenade. It was more of an explosive device, but it caused significant damage because it broke the window. No one was seriously injured and no one was hospitalized.”
Authorities have not yet identified the suspected perpetrators; however, police say they have “some interesting leads.” The motive for the attack has not yet been identified.
Two shopkeepers who were near the salon at the time of the explosion said: “We heard a loud bang which took our breath away. Then a sound of breaking glass followed by screams. We went out and saw people screaming. We didn’t immediately understand what was happening.”
A friend of the salon owner said: “The manager, some of her relatives and customers were inside. They saw someone throw something, then there was a loud bang. Fortunately, there were only minor injuries, but everyone was in shock. They were very scared.”
In response to the attack, French MEP Matthieu Valet said: “Another incident in Grenoble, a city run by the Greens… When security is not the mayor’s priority, it becomes the Wild West. In fact no, it looks more like Chicago!”
