Feds Knew Who Alex Pretti Was—and Broke His Rib in Earlier Fight

Normally, the FBI would handle such an investigation, given that it has the laboratory facilities and investigators experienced in shootings. In fact, Border Patrol agents requested help from the FBI in gathering evidence after the shooting, but ultimately, “all evidence, except the firearms and shell casings, was turned over to DHS,” according to an FBI memo.
The DOJ appears to be following the same playbook it used after an ICE agent killed Renee Good in Minneapolis earlier this month. Also in this case, the DOJ announcement there would be no civil rights investigation.
“This is absolutely the kind of investigation that should be led by the FBI because they have the authority, experience, capacity and credibility to conduct a thorough, objective and impartial investigation,” said MS NOW contributor and former FBI agent Chris O’Leary. “Unfortunately, the current FBI Director and DOJ leadership are preventing this from happening and are therefore part of the problem, not the solution.”
