Feeling you belong may keep scientists in ornithology, study suggests

Across all fields of science, researchers wonder why so many scientists abandon their fields. A new study from Virginia Tech suggests that at least part of the answer may be surprisingly simple. Scientists who feel a stronger sense of belonging to their discipline are more likely to intend to stay there. Those who feel out of place are more likely to consider leaving. Published recently in Biological Conservation, the study examined ornithologists, people who study birds, and found a clear link between belonging and intentions.
