Female GOP Lawmaker Shows the Way As Maryland Dems Push for Tampons in Men’s Restrooms – RedState

No one likes to talk about feminine hygiene products, including women, believe it or not.
But one Republican lawmaker is rightly exposing this uncomfortable conversation in a way that should make her woke Democratic colleagues in the Maryland House of Delegates feel embarrassed, even ashamed, after a bill was introduced in February that would require tampons — yes, tampons — and other similar products in Men’s toilets in public buildings.
Maryland Democrats are trying to pass a bill that would require all public buildings to provide tampons in men’s restrooms.

The summary of Maryland House Bill 941, titled “Public Health – Public Buildings – Hygiene Products,” states that it would require “public restrooms in public buildings to provide an adequate supply of hygiene products.”
Among other things, the bill clarifies that “‘menstrual hygiene products’ means tampons, sanitary napkins, and sanitary napkins of an appropriate size for use in connection with the menstrual cycle.” The bill has a lead sponsor and 16 co-sponsors, all Democrats, of course, but says nothing about why exactly these products are “necessary” in men’s restrooms, since men don’t have menstrual cycles.

Although the bill was first introduced on February 5, a debate on it apparently took place recently in the House. And the way Republican Delegate Kathy Szeliga (District 7A) presented her argument against the bill was about the best possible in a Democratic-dominated chamber.
Here’s how she reacted to the “appropriately sized” part of the bill in an exchange with a male Democratic delegate, Ken Kerr (District 3), who supports the legislation:
During her speech, the Maryland Republican congresswoman also questioned the bill’s language mandating that “appropriately sized tampons” be placed in all public restrooms in all public buildings.
“What are properly sized tampons?” “” Szeliga asked, provoking laughter from parts of the House. “I’ve never heard of such a thing. What do you consider appropriate?”
[…]In response, Assemblyman Ken Kerr, of Fredrick County, said the language “simply means that tampons are offered, there is no specific size.” Szeliga countered, arguing that if that was the case, she should say so and not talk about sizing.
Meanwhile, Szeliga then asked Democrats which public buildings would be affected, focusing on the football stadium where the NFL franchise, the Baltimore Ravens, plays and the baseball stadium, Camden Yards, where the Baltimore Orioles play. According to Szeliga, both are owned by the Maryland Stadium Authority.
Watch how uncomfortable Kerr looks when debating the issue with Szeliga as she smartly points out the absurdity of the bill:

The Maryland Republican Freedom Caucus has given the bill what it believes is an appropriate nickname, presumably in honor of Minnesota Governor “Tampon Tim” Walz (D):
Stamps for Timmy – Maryland is bankrupt. Electricity prices are unsustainable and people are eager to move. But it didn’t stop @mddems to force you to pay for tampons in the men’s restroom. Join @chisholmstrong and me for the stupidest bill in America! pic.twitter.com/ykBnmDyGl1

This, of course, isn’t the first time we’ve seen Democrats in state legislatures across the country try (and in some cases, succeed) to pass legislation like this. But at a time when it has become abundantly clear that this is an 80-20 issue (with Democrats on the wrong side) – and also at a time when Maryland’s finances are in trouble. not in order – it’s mind-boggling that this can even be brought up, let alone be a priority.

Given Maryland’s budget problems, Szeliga and other Republican lawmakers are pointing out the bill’s fiscal folly. Meanwhile, the AWFL (for example) in the Old Line State have publicly declared their support for this project from a woke point of view, of course.
But Szeliga forcing her male Democratic colleagues to debate the “buffer size” portion of the legislation is also important, because it helps shine an unflattering national spotlight on Democrats in general and how far they will continue to go in the name of “tolerance” and “diversity” — at the expense of women’s safety.
