A fire early Monday morning at a Naperville home left two adults and two children displaced, according to a news release from the Naperville Fire Department.

Authorities received a call around 1:09 a.m. reporting a fire on the back deck of a home in the 700 block of Kaiser Court. The caller confirmed that everyone had safely evacuated the building and that one of the owners was trying to put out the fire with a garden hose. A general alarm response was sent, consisting of 10 pieces of fire equipment and 24 personnel, the release said.

The first firefighters arrived at the scene around 1:15 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they noticed a fire on the rear patio of the house which extended into the attic. Water hoses were quickly deployed to the rear of the house to contain and extinguish the fire on the deck, while additional crews went to the attic to check and stop any further spread of the fire, the release said.

The fire was brought under control and declared out by 1:35 a.m., with crews remaining on scene for approximately another 20 minutes to search for any remaining hot spots.

No one was injured in the fire, but Naperville’s transportation, engineering and development team declared the building uninhabitable. Damages are estimated at more than $50,000. Improper disposal of charcoal was determined to be the cause of the fire, according to the release.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Department of Transportation, Engineering and Development.
