Netflix admits it used generative AI in a big sci-fi hit to cut costs

Netflix used a generative AI to create a scene in the Argentine science fiction series Eternaut – A first for one of the original stream’s programs or films. During a call for results Thursday, the Netflix Sarandos CO-PDG said that using AI was faster than using traditional visual effects and has helped reduce costs.
“This VFX sequence was completed 10 times faster than it could have been completed with traditional VFX tools and workflows,” said Sarandos during the call. “In addition, the cost of it would simply not have been possible for a show in this budget.”
Sarandos said the creative team behind Eternaut Used to generate a scene from a building collapse in Buenos Aires. “We remain convinced that AI represents an incredible opportunity to help creators improve films and series, not just cheaper,” added Sarandos.
In May, the streaming service revealed a new research feature fueled by AI on Mobile which allows users to find shows or films using conversational sentences, such as “something funny and optimistic” or “Stories about dancers”. Netflix also said that it would use AI to mix advertising breaks with platform programs and films – for example, allowing advertisers to display their product in front of a Foreign things– Inspired contact.
