‘Food Freedom’ appeal goes to Montana Supreme Court

The “fundamental intent” of this litigation is to prevent a future outbreak of botulism from high-risk home-canned foods.

Jeffrey P. Havens, who was once a commercial food safety manager in Montana, is now before that state’s Supreme Court, asking it to overturn a district court’s dismissal of his claims and act in the public interest.
For the better part of a decade, Havens served as a top food safety official at the Montana Department of Health and Human Services. He was recognized for his expertise in food safety and was elected president of the Montana Environmental Health Association.
