A group inspired by Charlie Kirk was escorted on the Tennessee State University campus (TSU) by the police after the students expressed their indignation in the face of the group’s hats and signs of the group opposing immigration and diversity, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

The group, Fearless Debates, is on tour in university campuses trying to start conversations with students on controversial subjects after being inspired by the late Charlie Kirk – the founder of Turning Point USA who was shot in ball during his own debate on the campus two weeks before. University students, who is listed as a historically black college or university (HBCU), tried to shout the group, continue and try literally to intimidate them, and even steal their sign, according to shared online videos.

“Police and campus staff responded quickly and the individuals were escorted from the campus without incident,” said a university statement on X Reads. “At all times, TSU students have taken place in a professional and respectful manner.”

The University said in a community message that they had the right to withdraw men from the campus on unauthorized configuration because the group was “hostile” and their actions were looking to “disrupt, lower and encourage fear within our community”. The line concerning the “respectful” behavior of the students has been deleted. (Related: the tribute of Charlie Kirk of the student ransacked by Peer – but it is suspended)

TSU did not respond to the request for comments from the Daily Call News Foundation.

Videos published by the debate group show that students according to men in their cars after being escorted outside the campus, with a few taunts and even launching them objects.

Intrepid debates had signs that read “Dei should be illegal” and “expel all the illegals now”.

The Nashville chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was released with a declaration of “solidarity” with TSU students, calling the signs of the “inflammatory” group and affirming that the debate “worked as a provocation”.

“This incident was not an isolated act of political expression – it was an intentional effort to thwart, disturb and instill fear in a space created to be sure, affirming and supports blacks, Aboriginal people and people of students and staff in color,” wrote the NAACP chapter. “While we recognize and respect that freedom of expression is a constitutional right, there is a clear and urgent distinction between constructive dialogue and deliberately conceived rhetoric to provoke, repair and endanger the psychological security of HBCUS students.”

“We are both furious and alarmed that groups like intrepid debates target the HBCU in 2025 with a rhetoric that echoes a long history of exclusion, racism and systemic oppression,” continues the declaration. “The appearance of these people on the Campus of the State University of Tennessee underlines that the policy and the ideologies which threaten the being of blacks are always real, always harmful and which always seek actively to silence and to antagonize us.”

Despite being a public university, the TSU strongly regulates the use of its campus, forcing students and not affiliated to request the approval of the university at least five days in advance, even just to “collect, demonstrate, distribute literature or engage in similar public activities” outside. “We are four ordinary guys with an extraordinary mission: to bring an honest conversation and open a debate to American university campuses,” we read on the Givedgo page of Fearless Debates. “Inspired by Charlie Kirk’s work and inheritance, we decided to hit the road, last minute and 100% basic, to put boots on the ground and ettoil the dialogue where he needs the most.”
