Ford is recalling nearly 413,000 Explorers due to a defect that could cause the driver to lose steering control, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. Affected model years are 2017-2019.

According to the NHTSA, the rear suspensions on Explorers have tie rods that can break, which could lead to loss of steering control.

NHTSA says dealers will replace the toe links free of charge and letters notifying owners of the recall are expected to be mailed March 9. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
