Former city of Chicago exec ‘very familiar’ with Niles is picked to be the town’s new village manager – Chicago Tribune

Niles officials announced that Frank Lindbloom was tapped to be the north suburban town’s village manager, calling him a “seasoned public administration executive” with nearly 30 years of experience working for several city of Chicago departments.
The announcement was made ahead of the Village Board meeting Tuesday where the board would vote on his hire. Lindbloom would officially start in the role as of Oct. 15. His salary was not immediately available.
“Frank comes to Niles with a strong financial background, labor management experience, and he and his family are very familiar with the area,” mayor George Alpogianis stated in the village news release announcing Lindbloom being selected for the role.
Lindbloom comes after the contract ended in July for Mark Janeck, who had been interim village manager. Janeck assumed the role of acting village manager Jan. 6 after Joseph La Margo stepped down Dec. 2, 2024 after starting in Aug. 2021.
According to the release, Lindbloom was first deputy director of Chicago’s Office of Public Safety Administration where he oversaw a $167 million operating budget and 382 employees, and supported over 20,000 public safety personnel across police, fire and the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications departments.
“Frank’s leadership has been instrumental in delivering major infrastructure projects, most notably the $160 [million] Public Safety Training Center, the largest of its kind in Chicago’s history,” the release explains.
Additionally, the release details that Lindloom oversaw modernization of Chicago’s public safety technology network and was at the helm of the financial and logistical strategy for large-scale events – which included a NATO Summit and the Democratic National Convention held last summer.
He has also been deputy chief of the administrative bureau of the Chicago Police Department where he managed a $1.6 billion budget as he helped lead financial, administrative and personnel operations, the release explains.
Niles officials stated in the release that choosing Lindbloom was the culmination of an “extensive recruitment process” for the position. There were over 90 applicants for the position, which village leaders saw as an indication of enthusiasm about the current state and future potential of the Niles – which borders northwest neighborhoods of Chicago.
Recruitment was done by Arndt Municipal Support Inc. which worked with a board committee and village staff, the release explains.
