Halevi made a presentation to Israeli residents of Moshav, discussing Israel’s strike on Qatar and the consequences of October 7.

Former FDI staff chief, Herzi Halevi, spoke on Tuesday evening to the residents of Ein Habesor, a Moshav in southern Israel who was strongly affected by the massacre of October 7, the Israeli media reported.

Halevi approached Israel’s strike on Doha, Qatar, which took place earlier during the day, who targeted high -ranking Hamas officials.

Although it is not yet clear how the strike has succeeded against the orchestrators of the October 7 attacks, Halevi considered it “a very complex decision of the political and military leadership”, according to Ynet. Although he declared that he had no involvement in this decision, he said that “we must be very determined in this war after what happened on October 7.

Halevi took responsibility

Halevi recognized the defense failures that led to the attacks of October 7. “I was the commander of the FDI that day-the responsibility is mine,” he told residents.

He said that Hamas’ threat was underestimated, red flags were ignored and that “the enemy managed to surprise us not only on October 7 but also in the capacities it had built”, adding that the overall nature of the assault was as shocking as timing.

Regarding his time as chief of staff before his resignation, Halevi shared that the “most difficult decisions I had to take concern the life rescue operations”, assuring the residents of Moshav that the absolute priority after his failures was the conditions of the hostages. “We are responsible for the fact that they are there and we must be responsible for bringing them back.”

Halevi finished the meeting with a powerful declaration that he and the chief of staff of the current FDI, Eyal Zamir, are determined to learn from errors that have led to October 7 and to “respect each question and to understand each frustration and anger”, in the pursuit of the unit for the inhabitants of Ein Habesor and the State of Israel.
