Authorities Make a Massive Discovery… of Gruesome Human Remains at PA Home – RedState

Authorities in Pennsylvania have made a grisly discovery after discovering more than 100 sets of human remains in a home and storage unit, calling the discovery a “horror movie come to life.”
Jonathan Gerlach, 34, of Ephrata, Pa., faces more than 500 charges after the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office said police “observed the suspect’s car with numerous bones and skulls in plain view in the back seat of the vehicle” at Mount Moriah Cemetery in suburban Philadelphia.
Authorities said they were on scene to investigate a series of burglaries of graves and mausoleums at a Palestinian Authority cemetery.
A local man who made headlines for allegedly harboring more than a hundred stolen human remains in his Ephrata home also admitted to selling some of them online, according to search warrants obtained by CBS 21.

“Gerlach was then seen leaving the cemetery with a burlap bag, a crowbar and other assorted items,” a press release states. “The offender was taken into custody where he admitted to stealing approximately 30 sets of human remains. Through investigation, it appears that over 100 complete or partial sets of human and skeletal remains were found in Gerlach’s home and storage unit in Ephrata, Pennsylvania.”
“Detectives walked into a horror movie come to life… It’s an incredible scene that no one was involved in, from myself to the detectives to the medical examiners who are now trying to piece together what they are looking at – literally – none of them have ever seen anything like this before,” said prosecutor Tanner Rouse.

“Detectives have recovered an awful lot of bones at this point, and we’re still trying to piece together who they are, where they came from and how many we’re looking at, and it’s going to take a while before we have a definitive answer,” Rouse added.
Local PA affiliate CBS 21 (WHP) reported which search warrants related to the case read:
CBS 21 obtained search warrants Friday that reveal more about how authorities were able to identify Gerlach as a suspect, as well as what was found inside his home and warehouse during searches earlier this week and what he was doing with the stolen remains.
In the warrant, it is revealed that police received a tip to investigate Gerlach regarding a mausoleum theft in Luzerne County, the outlet reported.
The informant told police they knew someone who had recently visited Gerlach’s home and saw a “partially decomposed corpse” hanging in his basement.
The tipster said it happened around the same time the Luzerne County Mausoleum was burglarized in November and Gerlach had also recently been charged with retail thefts in East Earl Township.
The press release details some of the items seized from Gerlach’s home.
It included the following elements:
More than 100 human skulls
Many human long bones
Mummified human feet and hands
Two decomposing human torsos
Other assorted skeletal objects
Gerlach was charged with more than “450 counts, including 100 counts each of abuse of a corpse, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property,” reported the Fox News article, linked above. The investigation is ongoing.
He remains behind bars with bail set at $1,000,000 and an arraignment hearing set for January 20.
