Full List of NATO Navies Supplying World’s Largest Muslim Nation

The Indonesian Defense Ministry signed an agreement on Saturday with Turkish officials for the purchase of two frigates.
Although the agreement is added to the growing list of Jakarta supply contracts with NATO allies, analysts warn that relying on such a diverse mixture of foreign manufacturers poses logistical challenges and could reduce the limited defense budget of Indonesia.
Nowsweek contacted the Indonesian Defense Ministry and the Turkish Foreign Ministry by E-mail to comment.
Why it matters
Despite the largest navy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has only one handful of combat ships-mainly including a small attack profession adapted to the operation near the coast and a small fleet of aging submarines.
While Indonesia has maintained a policy of neutrality, even in the midst of territorial disputes with China, Malaysia and Australia, those responsible worked on the transition of the navy from a defense -focused green water force towards a navy of blue water capable of projecting power more distant from its banks.
France
The manufacturer of French war vessels Naval Group has been contracted to build two diesel-electrical scorpene-class submarines in Indonesia, which will carry the number of submarines in the country to six.
The Indonesian navy operates two oceanographic research ships built by the French naval construction of the OCEA.

United Kingdom
Two frigates based on the design of the United Kingdom Arrowhead 140 are under construction for Indonesia by the naval manufacturer belonging to the State PT PAL by virtue of an agreement with the defense entrepreneur based in London Babcock.
Manufacturer and manufacturing products and submarine products of British diving and submarines are contracted to provide the Indonesian navy with its new submarine rescue system.
Italy
Earlier this month, Indonesia took delivery of the first of the two versatile offshore patrol ships which he ordered to the Italian Naval manufacturer Fincantieri.
The Netherlands
Indonesia uses six corvettes guided by Sigma class missiles, designed by Sigma: four larger and more advanced martadinata class ships.

“A logistics nightmare that does not maximize effective use of limited funds for long -term sustainability of a fleet.”
SSB, a Turkish government agency responsible for managing projects in the defense industry, wrote: “This marks the first export of Turkey of Milgem class ships to Indonesia and represents an important step in strategic naval cooperation, making our nation proud.
“We hope that this collaboration, embodying the shared vision of the maritime defense of two Allied nations, will be beneficial for all the parties involved.”
