Garmin’s nutrition logging is quite similar to the nutrition logging features of other apps, including my favorite free app. Cronometer. Identifying food products from a photo is a common feature, but it’s often locked behind a premium tier, which Finally This makes Garmin’s $6.99/month Connect+ subscription make sense. If you had to pay for a premium nutrition app anyway, or if you already subscribe to one, you can consolidate those subscriptions by paying just for Garmin.
If MyFitnessPal is currently linked to Garmin, you may receive a message that it has been disabled. This connection still works, but you can’t use both And the new nutritional functionality: Garmin Connect must have a single source of nutritional information.
What do you think of it so far?
A benefit of feeding your diet in Garmin Connect rather than another app is that the setup process uses your activity history to help you choose a calorie goal. This way, you don’t have to guess whether you’re “moderately active” or “lightly active.” Calorie estimates from fitness apps are never completely precisebut they tend to be a very good place to start if you’re not sure which number to choose.
The nutrition feature also allows you to view your calories on your watch and save your favorite or recent foods. (For a full search, you’ll still need to use the app.) This watch feature is available natively on newer watches, and through a ConnectIQ app for slightly older watches: the Forerunner 255 and Fenix 6 are covered by the latter app.
