Gavin Newsom Makes a Craven Pivot on Charlie Kirk, and He’s Hoping You Didn’t Notice – RedState

In February, when news broke that conservative icon and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk would appear on the inaugural episode of California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom’s podcast, there was much debate and pushback from liberals and conservatives alike.

Leftists were upset that Newsom was presenting a platform to someone who, in their view, was the very definition of a bad conservative. And there was disagreement on the right over Kirk’s choice to break bread with Newsom. Some said Kirk shouldn’t give Newsom the time of day because the governor was clearly trying to make it seem like he was more of a halfway guy ahead of a potential 2028 presidential campaign.

Nonetheless, the interview happened, Kirk got Newsom to admit the injustice of men in women’s sports, and we learned that Gavin Newsom’s 13-year-old son was a big fan of his.

But unfortunately, Kirk is no longer there, the victim of a left-wing assassin’s bullet. And while Newsom had nice things to say about Kirk following his assassination, he recently told a completely different story on the issue of his son being a Kirk fan, telling CNN in an interview Monday that his son was not a Kirk fan, that he was simply “familiar” with who Kirk was.

Below are both clips. The first, obviously, comes from the reunion of Newsom and Kirk. Newsom talks about how his son was very excited the day before the interview and how the next morning he didn’t want to go to school and wanted to stay home to meet Charlie Kirk. Newsom didn’t let it happen, but he used the story to explain how Kirk was “advertising” to young Americans:

But on Monday, here’s what Newsom had to say:

So… he went from being excited about Kirk visiting Newsom to the point of wanting to skip school and spend time just being “familiar” with who he was?

RIGHT.

To be perfectly clear, I don’t care who likes or dislikes Gavin Newsom’s son. It is a free country and is allowed to make its own choices on this matter.

This is Gavin Newsom using a good, decent guy to try to promote himself to an audience he’d like to appeal to before 2028, and then distancing himself and his family now that he’s gone, presumably to appease the type of bitterly hateful leftists who mocked Kirk’s death and said he didn’t deserve to be honored.

This is cowardly, slimy politics at its finest. Something we have learned to expect from him. Gavin Newsom tells us, once again, who he really is. And we should believe it.
