Gaza Humanitarian Foundation says two of its US aid workers injured in Gaza

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation said on Saturday that two American humanitarian workers had suffered injuries not putting their life in danger during a targeted attack on a food distribution site in Gaza.

The GHF supported by the United States and Israeli said in a statement that injured Americans received medical treatment and were in stable state.

“The attack – that the preliminary information indicated was carried out by two attackers who threw two grenades to the Americans – occurred at the end of a differently successful distribution in which thousands of gas received food in complete safety,” the GHF said.

In addition to humanitarian workers, the GHF employs private American military entrepreneurs responsible for providing security on their sites. He was not immediately clear who was behind the attack.

The Israeli army had no immediate comments when contacted by Reuters.

Gazan authorities have reported separately that dozens of Palestinians had been killed by the Israeli army in the past 24 hours, including distribution sites close to aid.

On Thursday, the Interior Ministry managed by Hamas in Gaza had warned residents of the coastal enclave not to help the GHF, saying that fatal incidents near its food distribution sites have endangered hungry gasans.

The GHF began to distribute food packages in Gaza at the end of May, by bypassing traditional aid channels, including the United Nations which indicates that the organization based in the United States is neither impartial nor neutral.

The GHF said that it had delivered more than 52 million meals to the Palestinians in five weeks, while other humanitarian groups had “almost all their looted aid”.

Since Israel has lifted an 11 -week aid blockade on Gaza on May 19, the UN said that more than 400 Palestinians were killed when searching for help documents. A senior United Nations said last week that the majority of people killed were trying to reach GHF aid distribution sites.

The images published by GHF have shown at least one help site as exceeding without clear distribution process. The Palestinians have described sites as chaotic.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, at least 70 people have been killed in the territory by the Israeli army in the last 24 hours, including 23 distribution sites close to aid.

The ministry did not specify where or how they had been killed.

More than 57,000 Palestinians in Gaza were killed in the War of Israel against Hamas, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, launched after the surprise attack of the militant group against Israel on October 7, 2023.

Activists led by Hamas killed around 1,200 people in this attack and took 251 other hostages in Gaza. There are 50 hostages still held in Gaza, 20 of which are considered alive.
