Genndy Tartakovsky releases ‘Black Knight’ test footage to rally fan support

Friday, the legend of animation Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter laboratory,, Primitive) has published superb test images for his current film project, Black knightOn Instagram. There is only one problem: the film may even have never been released.
As Tartakovsky explained in his legend, Black knight has been developing for six years. However, the studio, Sony Animation, is not sure that there is a theatrical audience for the fancy epic for adults.

“We did a Down and Dirty test, and still not to go,” Tartakovsky wrote about his attempts to influence Sony. “So, to try something different, I thought I shared the test to see if he can get an excitement swell that would change the spirit of the studio.”

One -minute test sequences are full of atmospheric action. He presents holder Black Knight, a 20 -foot high armor costume which, according to Tartakovsky, is controlled by strings, pulleys and levers by a knight inside. Since the film is located around the 14th century, this makes the black knight the medieval equivalent of a mechanism costume.
In the images, the black knight crosses paths with an agile young woman armed with chains. The battle that followed is brief but engaging, with the agility of the masked woman against the massive sword swords of Black Knight.
Black knight is not the first of Tartakovsky’s projects to encounter development or release difficulties. In the early 2010s, Tartakovsky worked on a Papeye Film for Sony. He was released in 2015 and Sony then abandoned the project. His latest film, Sony’s Fixedwas originally supposed to be theatrically distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The studio abandoned it in 2024, but Netflix acquired its distribution rights and released it in 2025.
With Black knightIt seems that Tartakovsky settles in what is now a familiar fight, but with different tactics. As he wrote in his legend for test images, “well, it could cause me trouble … But I have to try a new strategy.”
