Germany’s New Connected Trains Update Like Modern Cars

Eighty-two Deutsche Bahn train cars will soon come to the German railway system, marking the start of a new era of connected mobility for the transport company. Each of the cars can be updated in the air like a modern car.
S-Bahn cars, intended for Bavaria, are manufactured by Siemens Mobility. S-BAHN is a short-range urban-distant rail system. The S-Bahn Munich network is part of the DB Regio network of the Deutsche Bahn subsidiary. There are currently around 1,000 daily train services that operate in the network more than 400 kilometers.
Train cars are an integral part of the future of Deutsche Bahn in Bavaria. They offer more space and greater comfort for passengers and provide a passenger environment in Germany, by which S-Bahn trains completely integrated last more than 200 meters. They can contain up to 1,841 passengers.
“A 200 meter long S-Bahn means a higher capacity, better punctuality and greater comfort for our passengers. said in a press release.

Train cars have the additional advantage of requiring little maintenance. They can also be updated via Cloud Computing technology, as are today’s most modern vehicles, such as Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Siemens Mobility won the 2 billion euros contract for cars after a tender process across the European Union. The financing of the trains is guaranteed by a rental model with the state of Bavaria.
“This marks a huge step towards even more friendly mobility in the largest metropolitan region of Bavaria. We are announcing a new era and taking Munich S-Bahn in the future. Like the person responsible for regional rail transport in Bavaria, I can say that this investment is well worth the price. Virtually all local transport in the Munich region depends more or less on a well-functional and attractive S-Bahn,” said the Minister of Transport Bavarian Christian Berreiter in a press release.
A 2024 report from the Federal German Federal Network Agency revealed that the average travel distance in regional and local transportation of rail passengers from 2019 to 2023 was 20.4 kilometers. Local and regional rail transport in the country included 2.72 million passengers in 2023.
In the United States, Amtrak recently started the service of its NextGen Acela train, which is widely considered the most advanced version of the trip to passenger in the country. Although it has several of the same characteristics as Siemens mobility cars for Deutsche Bahn, including free Wi-Fi, it does not have cloud connectivity.

The seats were redesigned for new Bahn Deutsche cars. There are three and four -seater arrangements, as well as group areas with folding seats. The special space is designated for wheelchair runners. Not all cars have the same configuration.
A robust air conditioning system has been installed, and it is billed as being able to keep the occupants of the car cool in extreme heat up to 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
Modern displays are presented above the doors inside and outside the car, on the ceiling and in the transitions between cars. The screens follow the trip of the trains and provide information on the occupation of the cars.
The cars were designed to include large opening doors and spacious input areas to optimize the entry and exit time of passengers.
Passengers with Bluetooth compatible hearing aids can connect their sound improvement devices to the train Bluetooth, which allows them to hear announcements in the Auritors.
The new S-Bahn passenger cars will go into service in 2028 in Bavaria.
