Get Windows 11’s new battery icons with the latest optional update

Microsoft has confirmed to Windows Latest that the newly redesigned battery indicator in the Windows 11 taskbar is now rolling out to more users. The feature has been in testing for a long time and started reaching users as early as 2025, but limited to certain computers.
The new battery icons were made more widely available in the optional February update (KB5077241), which means you may start to see a more informative battery indicator if you pick up this update.
The new battery icon is larger and easier to see than before. When your laptop is charging, it will display green with a lightning bolt symbol. When your charger is unplugged, the battery icon will turn white. When power saving mode is activated (either manually or automatically at 30 percent), it turns orange. And when the battery level reaches 5% or less, it turns red. Pretty intuitive stuff.
You can also choose to display the exact battery percentage directly in the taskbar via Settings > System > Power & Battery.
The rollout is happening in stages, though, meaning it may take a while before the feature is visible on all PCs, even with the update. To get the update, you will need to install it manually through Windows Update or by downloading it through the Microsoft Update catalog.
