Gold and gems quiz: What do you know about sparkly treasures made by nature?

Television and Internet advertisements regularly tout the classic beauty of gold jewelry and the dazzling brilliance of cut gemstones. While we all know about gemstones – diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds – there are hundreds of other semi-precious gemstones, depending on the International Gemstone Society. And sometimes even organic materials used to make jewelry (like beads) are considered precious stones.

Many gemstones are made into jewelry using gold, a soft and malleable element. Although gold is a relatively rare metal, scientists don’t know exactly how many are there in the world – or how much I have left.
