Golden State Valkyries’ latest cut illustrates the need for more roster spots

The Golden State Valkyries had a great first season. They are in the mixture of the playoffs with a 9-7 file, they are assessed at a record of $ 500 million, and they sell Chase Center every evening.

They also demonstrate that expansion of alignment is desperately necessary in the WNBA.

On Monday, the Valkyries announced that they had given up the guard Julie Vanloo, who has been abroad for Eurobasket for a few weeks. The Valkyries acquired Vanloo during the expansion of expansion in December, and the Belgian guard lasted on average 20 minutes per match with the Valkyries in 9 appearances this season.

Shortly after, Vanloo posted on Instagram that she had just climbed to San Francisco: “I need time to deal with this and put my sensations in words. I can’t at the moment.”

In addition to giving up Vanloo, the Valkyries have given up Chloe Bibby and Bree Hall, while Cecilia Zandalasini and Janelle Salaun come back from Eurobasket. For the moment, the former Uconn Kaitlyn Chen guard remains on the list.

Vanloo had a difficult start for the offensive year, with an average of 4.6 points out of 29.2% of shots, including 21.1% out of three. But the 32 -year -old man was an essential element of the Belgian team who has just won gold, with an average of 9.8 points and 5.3 assists.

Bibby, an Australian striker, was also a solid contributor in the five games she spent with the Valkyries during the Eurobasket, with an average of 6.4 points and firing on 42.1% out of three. Hall, a recruit in South Carolina, only played 8 minutes for the Valkyries through two games.

Chen stays on the list, although other cuts can come. Chen on average 19.3 minutes in four games, pulling 50% compared to three.

The past few weeks have demonstrated the value of the lists expanding during the 12 players. Valkyries moved players there in and out of the list since the start of the Eurobasket, with key players like Zandalasini and Salaun, temporarily going abroad. Vanloo returns to Golden State and was immediately canceled strengthened how limited the 12 points of the alignment are, as was the fact that several players – like Chen – have shown that they deserved alignment spots of the WNBA while Eurobasket was held.
