Google adds memories to the Gemini chatbot, staying a step ahead of Anthropic

Back in February, Google added memories to Gemini This allowed him to remember the past conversations. Now Google has announced a more personalized cat function, which it calls the personal context. With this function, Gemini will now learn your preferences over time and crafts according to these preferences.

In terms of features, Gemini will remember if you say that you wish. Later, when you ask him to find ideas for you, this will take these preferences into consideration. For example, Google says, if you talk to Gemini about your favorite comic strip, then ask him later to help you plan a specific thematic birthday party, this can recommend this comic strip as theme. This will then help to offer ideas for food and party game.

This seems to be an iterative improvement in current memory functions. In the previous iteration, you had to ask Gemini to specifically reference the older cats so that it has access to this information (and sometimes it would not be able to do so). Now Gemini learns and responds continuously without you having to ask it directly. The longer you speak to him, the more he will learn about you and the more his answers will be adapted.

The new feature keeps Gemini before Anthropic, who published his own Cat memory function A few days ago for his Chatbot Claude. Claude’s new memory works as the habit of Gemini, where you must specifically ask Claude to reference old cats and apply this knowledge to new conversations.

Google deploys a personal context from today and expects the full deployment to take a few weeks. It will only be available in Gemini 2.5 pro in some countries, with plans to extend it to GEMES 2.5 FLASH and other countries in the coming weeks.
