Google Messages Is About to Make a Top Feature Even Better

It seems that Google Messages obtains a new feature or an exciting update every few weeks, and that does not slow down anytime soon. Text messaging is an extremely important communication tool, but if you have already received a message that you did not want, we have good news. Google’s sensitive content filters seem to improve.

Last year, Google announced several initiatives to make Google messages safer. Most of those focused on spam, but the other side of things was a new system of “significant content warnings” integrated into the messenger. Google finally started to deploy these content filters in April to stop the inappropriate images, and it could be ready to do something similar for videos.

Sensitive content warnings in Google messages are exactly what it looks like: an optional filter that uses disk learning to recognize inappropriate content, like naked photos, and prevents it from appearing in a text message. Instead, a blurred image and a filter alert the user, requiring an additional step to display.

This underestimated feature is not only for incoming messages either. Once activated, the opt-in content system will also require an additional step to send this type of content. When a user is going to send something he probably shouldn’t, a pop-up reminds people to “make online responsible decisions”. It’s great for everyone, and more importantly, parents, and it could come to videos afterwards.

For the moment, that’s all we really know. However, with the code already in Google messages, it is only a matter of time. Google could return a switch on the server side to activate it or make adjustments before deploying it to beta tests. In any case, adding warnings and content filters sensitive to the photos was a solid first step, but doing the same for the videos would be even better. And again, this is an opt-in function that you can find in the Settings menu.

It is clear that Google takes its messages seriously, especially if it wants to compete with Imessage. In the past six months, we have received updates that add more personalization, the possibility of deleting messages to everyone in a group cat, spam blocking tools and a redesigned support interface that no one likes, to name a few.

If you still don’t use Google messages, you miss. Of course, there are more customizable alternatives, but RCS support and all these new features make it an excellent option for Android messaging.
