Google plows ahead with unskippable YouTube ads on TVs

We’ve already talked about how YouTube is the new lord of the living room. TV now represents the biggest piece of the pie when it comes to how people watch YouTube, supplanting mobile devices and PCs, at least in the United States. If you’re one of those who primarily watches YouTube from a couch, your viewing experience might soon get a little worse.
Google has just announced via a blog post that it has now started showing unmissable YouTube ads on TVs globally. Google’s AI will optimize ads so that they are shown to the right viewers at the right time.
These non-skippable ads will be 30 seconds long and will run alongside the 6 and 15 second ads already running.
Unskippable ads are one of the main reasons people use ad blockers on YouTube. If you don’t block ads, you might also want to consider a YouTube Premium Lite plan, which is now $8/month with recent changes that added offline downloads and background playback in addition to (mostly) ad-free viewing.
