Two women were found dead, and another woman was found wounded following a domestic violence shooting early Saturday morning in South Gate, deputies said. The suspect died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after firing shots at officers.

Officers from the South Gate Police Department responded to a home in the 8400 block of San Luis Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. in response to a 911 caller who stated that a man was in her residence shooting a firearm.

When officers arrived, the male suspect reportedly exited the front door of the residence, armed with a weapon, and fired several gunshots at officers. South Gate police responded by firing shots at the suspect, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect then went back into the residence, and officers heard additional gunshots.

Officers approached the residence and were able to extract a Hispanic woman in her 70s who was suffering from gunshot wounds. She was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

While clearing the residence, officers found a Hispanic woman, approximately 25 years old, and a Hispanic woman in her early 50s dead with gunshot wounds. They also found the suspect, described as a Hispanic man in his early 50s, dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, deputies said.

Investigators said the suspect and three victims are related, and the incident appears to be related to domestic violence. Further details about how they are related were not immediately released.

Deputies said a firearm consistent with the one used to shoot at South Gate officers was recovered at the scene.

No officers were injured during the shooting.

The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner-Coroner will release the names of the suspect and victims, pending next-of-kin notifications.
